Dear Cathedral Family,
The Third Sunday in Advent is “Gaudete” Sunday, the rejoicing Sunday, when the reflection and repentance of the first half of the season turns to joyful anticipation of the coming of God’s kingdom in Jesus. It is fitting, then, that on this Sunday we will enjoy our annual Children’s Christmas Pageant, which will take place at 9:30 a.m., before our worship. Our children’s joy will then set the tone for our continuing preparations for Christmas.
Another source of joy this week can be found in the production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. This is in some ways a reprise of the initial performance of this work two years ago, featuring many of the same talented cast and led with the same expert hand of music director Elizabeth Gatter. If you would like a little more joyful Christmas music, you might also consider attending the Mobile’s Singing Children Christmas Concert here next Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
In this season of preparation and full festive schedules, it is easy to become over-committed and even overwhelmed. Be sure to keep some space and time to allow the Lord to rest in your heart and give you rest, so that you can experience the true joys of the coming of Christmas.
Faithfully,
Beverly+
