Ministry Sign-Up

The ministry of lay persons is to represent Christ and his Church;

to bear witness to him wherever they may be; and, according to the gifts given them,

to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world;

and to take their place in the life, worship, and governance of the Church.

BECOMING A LAY MINISTER

Lay ministers come in all ages and walks of life. All who serve are baptized.

Acolytes

Our youngest lay ministers serve as crucifers for Children's Chapel each Sunday.  Children in third and fourth grades may be trained to serve.  Youth between grades 5 and 12 serve as acolytes, with senior high aged youth serving as crucifers.

Lay Readers

Parish members over age 16 may be asked to read during the service.  Lay Readers must be reliable and have the ability to speak in public.  Lay Readers come from the congregation to read the two lessons each week.

Chalice Bearers

Chalice bearers serve the wine at communion.  They are invited by the Dean to serve and they are licensed through the Diocese.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Lay Eucharistic Ministers take communion to the sick and home bound.  They are invited by the Dean to serve and they are licensed through the diocese.

To serve as an adult lay minister you should be baptized in this or any Christian church, confirmed or received by a bishop of the Episcopal Church, attend services, receive Holy Communion, and make a financial commitment.
